Arts in Education
Hayiya Dance Theatre’s Arts in Education program is modeled in the spirit of the organization’s commitment to excellence in dance education and our pledge to increase access to performing arts. HDT Arts in Education program functions as a traveling classroom introducing thousands of young people to the world of dance and discipline by providing access to a myriad of activities that encourage creativity and kindle a desire to learning.
HDT’s Arts in Education program includes dance performance, percussion classes, lectures, demonstrations and curriculum-based residencies.
In the program students learn the origins and meanings of dances in addition to choreography. The art form of dance also represents the field of physical education where students develop and enhance their own physical strength, flexibility and endurance. Students learn geography, social studies, and history by exploring new languages, traditional garb, historically relevant events and traditions.
Arts in Education students are able to apply the skills acquired in dance classes to their school work and every day life. Simultaneously, students forge strong bonds with their fellow classmates and learn to work well as members of a team.
